The Sweden-Japan Academic Network 14th event was hosted at KVA (the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences) on the 2nd of March. The event commenced with opening remarks from Prof. Sven Lidin, President of KVA; Hideaki Mizukoshi, Ambassador of Japan to Sweden; and Prof. Johan Eriksson, Chair of the JSPS Sweden Alumni Club.
Following this, the keynote speakers presented fascinating lectures on robotics and AI. Professor Kenji Kawashima, from The University of Tokyo, talked about the evolution of surgical robots and recent developments. Professor Kristian Samuelsson, from the University of Gothenburg, talked about AI’s impact on health care and its capability of outperforming humans in diagnostics and medical inventions.
After a small break, three speakers who have conducted research through JSPS programs talked about their academic experience in Japan and their subsequent careers. Prof. Jonas Olsson from SMHI shared his research in Japan and how it is used at SMHI. Inga Tuminaite from Stockholm University, talked about her experience of being in a Japanese lab and the social and cultural experiences that lead to a valuable exchange. Professor Edwin Jager from Linköping University, talked about his research career in Japan and Sweden, and how the exchange and unplanned events had defining and meaningful impacts on his subsequent career. Finally, the event concluded with a reception.
Thank you all very much for participating!
We also want to express our sincere gratitude to The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences for hosting this event. The Ambassador of Japan to Sweden, the keynote speakers, and the board members of SAC.
