Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme for Foreign Researchers

 

This programme is aimed at providing the awardees with an opportunity to conduct cooperative research with leading research groups in Japanese universities and research institutions, thereby permitting them to advance their own research, while stimulating Japanese academic circles, particularly young researchers through close collaboration in scientific activities.

There are two ways of applying for JSPS Postdoctoral fellowship: (a)  through the Japanese host institute ,or (b)through a nominating authority in your home country. For information on nominating authorities, see further down on the webpage.

(a) Application through Open Recruitment in Japan (Application by Japanese host researcher) 
 

【Standard】
Postdoctoral Fellowships: 1 to 2 year programme aimed at young postdoctoral researchers to enable them to spend a significant period of research in Japan.
 

Application Deadline (for Japanese host institution)

May 6-12, 2011 for Recruitment commencing September 1, 2011- November 30, 2011

【Short Term】
Postdoctoral Fellowships: This fellowship program provides special short-term quotas for North American and European researchers to experience firsthand the research and living environment in Japan. (Fellowships are awarded for a period of 1 month to 12 months.)

Nominating authorities for standard postdoctoral fellowship are (Direct Link)

in Sweden: KVA ,  VINNOVA or SSF .
in Denmark: Danish Rectors' Conference.
in Finland: Academy of Finland
in Norway:  The Research Council of Norway.
in Estonia:  Estonia Science Foundation.  

 

For Swedish Researchers

Swedish researchers must submit application to JSPS Stockholm Office , and JSPS sends application to Swedish nominating authorities, KVA, SSF and VINNOVA depending on research field.

Please note that you must submit application 4 months before you start research in Japan.

 

【Short Term】

Nominating authority for short-term postdoctoral fellowship in Sweden is KVA.
Researchers in other Nordic and Baltic countries are advised to apply through the Japanese host institution.
